OpsLevel Releases Recommended Service Owners to Optimize Service Management Efficiency
Today OpsLevel announces the release of recommended service owners, a new feature that removes the guesswork from assigning ownership so teams can ensure the continued, frictionless performance of their services.
Service ownership is crucial to the success of not only your internal developer portal (IDP) but by extent, the overall health of your systems and business. This is why it’s mission-critical that all of your detected services have an owner assigned. That, however, can sometimes be tricky. Who should own what isn’t always clear, especially when it comes to enterprise organizations with complex environments handled by a large number of teams with various responsibilities.
With the recommended service owners feature, OpsLevel now includes a list of suggested owners for services detected through git providers. The recommendations are based on the top three contributors to that service. A tooltip describes the number of times each user from that team has contributed recently to help you make an informed decision when assigning ownership.
Previously, assigning ownership meant hunting down service information by pinging Slack or looking for internal organizational charts that might be outdated. This creates a lot of extra tedious work for all teams, leading to orphaned services and a hit to your software standards. Now users can confidently assign accurate ownership right at the time of registering the service. This is useful not just during your initial catalog creation, but also for supporting the ongoing maintenance of your catalog as new services are continuously being detected through fresh integrations and migrations.
The recommended service owners feature is part of OpsLevel’s ongoing commitment to reducing the burden of maintaining a thorough, accurate, and up-to-date catalog for development and platform teams. Read more about it in our docs.
